Waterworks River looking south from Bridgewater Road bridge towards Warton House
Colour pigment photographic print showing the Waterworks River looking south from Bridgewater Road bridge towards Warton House in east London, 2005. Warton House was the former factory of the perfume manufacturer Yardley's of London. The Waterworks River channel was originally cut in 1743 to direct water from the River Lea to supply a reservoir at the waterworks at Saynes Mill, Stratford. Improvements were made to this and other waterways at the mouth of the River Lea, known as the 'Bow Back Rivers', in the 1930s. This photograph was taken as part of a project to document the site of the London 2012 Olympic Games prior to its closure for redevelopment in July 2007.
