Photograph, pigment print
Steel wire in the warehouse at F H Brundle, a steel distribution business dating back to 1889. In November 2005, an 'Evening Standard' article reported that the owners claimed that compensation awarded to them by the London Development Agency to move the firm to Rainham fell £2 million short of the amount it would actually cost them to move. Ten of their staff quit, unable to commute to the new site.
Debra Rapp worked in partnership with another photographer, Marion Davies, on a detailed photographic survey of businesses in the Olympic area prior to their closure in July 2007. The London Development Agency served compulsory purchase orders on 280 businesses in order to redevelop the site for the 2012 Olympic Games.
