Negative, acetate
The dilapidated interior of the Synagogue School House, Brick Lane. Postwar, London’s Jewish community moved out of the East End to prosperous northern suburbs like Golders Green, as did the congregation of Spitalfields Great Synagogue. The building was converted in 1976 to serve the religious needs of the local Bengali population. Margaret Macdonald was an art teacher who took up photography and became interested in the Spitalfields area. She collaborated in an exhibition about Spitalfields in 1979.
