Printed Ephemera — 1971-1974
Mask, face mask
The donor of this item recalls such red card face masks being worn by protestors at an Anti-Vietnam war march in London at which they were present in the early 1970s.
The most significant protests in London against the USA war in Vietnam and perceived support by the British government for US Foreign policy occured in 1968 and 1969. Marches and rallies through central London of up to 100,000 protestors often ended at the US Embassy in Grosvenor Square. These mass events included individual protestors as well as radical, socialist and anarchist political groups and high profile celebrity campaigners including the actor Vanessa Redgrave.
Smaller protests continued until the end of the war in 1975.
