The roof of a house in Cable Street
Part of Henry Grant's series of East End Streets, this photograph depicts the roof of a house in Cable Street, Stepney. London has always consisted of areas of wealth together with areas of grinding poverty. Many people lived in appalling, cramped and unsanitary conditions. Cable Street was notorious during the 1950s for its social problems.
