Photography — C. 1860
Unidentified street, London
In order to capture this scene, Blanchard hired a cab and transformed it into a dark room by blacking out the windows. He then got his driver to park at the side of the street and erected his tripod and camera on the roof. To obtain a shutter speed fast enough to arrest motion, a very small camera had to be used.
