Buckingham Palace
The East Front of Buckingham Palace, Westminster, c. 1890. Buckingham Palace has been the official main residence of the British monarch since the accession of Queen Victoria in 1837. The building is based on Buckingham House, built in 1703 for the Duke of Buckingham. This was enlarged in the 19th century to form three wings around a central courtyard. Shown here is the old East Front, completed in 1847. It was replaced by the current facade, designed by Aston Webb, in 1913.
