Unloading fish at Billingsgate Market
Around 5 in the morning in the lorry park at Billingsgate Market, a woman on board her delivery van begins to unload boxes of fish. The porters receive them and take them on to the merchants' stands on the trading floor, a process known as 'shoring in' in reference to the old practice of carrying fish ashore from boats once moored at Billingsgate Wharf. This is one of many photographs Bob Collins made there in 1958.
