This woman's day hat belonged to Valentine Rippon, a young London woman in her late twenties. This cloche-shaped hat is trimmed with replica fruit and was made by Mrs Williams of Putney.
Navy blue straw or plant fibre plaited and machine stitched to shape and over stitched in rows radiating from the button (top centre crown). Cloche shape with soft crown and turned up brim in one piece. Brim decorated with artificial flowers and fruit, covered with a veil that may have been shortened. Blue corded silk ribbon encircles the crown and is formed into a rosette at left hand side of centre front. The straw base was produced in the Far East.
