Boot, platform-soled boot
A pair of woman's boots in bottle-green leather, knee high with zip fastening at inside leg. The vamp piece is stitched in a decorative pattern visible on the centre front. The boots have the distinctive very high platform soles and chunky heels fashionable for both men and women in the mid 1970s. The style was inspired by the platform shoes of the 1940s. The height could cause foot or ankle injuries for the wearer if they fell off. Platform boots became an icon of 1970s London in the same way that the miniskirt had been an icon of the 1960s. Like the miniskirt, the platform boot represented freedom to dress in ways that the older generation found difficult.
