Hat, headband
This bandeau of felt flowers is from the 1940s. Hats were not subject to the government controls that rationed clothing in the Second World War. For those who could afford them, hats could boost morale by adding a little frivolity, self-indulgence and personal style to diminishing wardrobes.
This hat, which is made with a dark-brown velvet bandeau, is decorated with tightly packed pink, purple and blue felt flowers set amid bright green leaves and finished with a deep pink net veil. There is no maker's label. Brown velvet.
