Shoe, bar shoe
Pair of bright orange patent leather bar or Mary-jane style shoes, fastening with a pearl button, lined with black leather and a black leather sock. Made by Manfield of Northampton, who ran a chain of high street shoe shops in the 1960s as part of Charles Clore's British Shoe Corporation. In London, Manfield had shops in Oxford Street and Kensington High street, both well placed to supply the fashionable youth market. Childlike shoe styles, with straps and low heels were part of the 1960s' baby-doll' look. Mary-Janes are named after a character in the cartoon series Buster Brown who always wore this style of shoe with a strap.
