Sampler
Unbleached linen canvas sampler worked in polychrome silks in cross, satin, double running and Hungarian stitch. The central building represents the Royal Exchange in London's Cornhill. It is surrounded by a a stylised floral border; geometric designs; stylised shrubs, flowers, birds and crowns surrounding religious texts. The inscription reads "A view of the Royal Exchange in Cornhill done by Ann Yates in the 12 year of her age 1790". Two sides are hemmed (one in red silk, one partly in brown), two sides are selvedge.
