Bakine Kuhinje (Grandmothers' Recipes)
This cookery book 'Bakine Huhinje' or 'Grandmothers' Recipes' is printed in English and Serbo Croat. It was published in 2004 by the Bosnian Resource Information Centre and Kosovar Support (BRICKS), a small community organisation offering services to refugees from the former Yugoslavia. The author Vesna Tomic writes in the introduction: 'For me, cooking means art; culture, history, geography and creativity are expressed in every meal. After war broke out in my country, my daughters, grand-daughter and I arrived in London as refugees in 1993. It was then that I started to enjoy cooking and to use cooking as therapeutic relaxation.' The book is full of old recipes influenced by the dishes of countries bordering Yugoslavia such as Austria, Italy, Hungary, Turkey and Greece.
