Shoe, mule

Woman's mules (pair). Continental, France/Italy/Sweden (?). Vamp and heel cover of silk brocade tabby in a floral motif (small part of a large design) in grey/blue, green and off-white (cream). White kid rand. Leather sole. Tarnished silver lace extends from toe to edge of vamp, along the edge of the vamp and down the back of the heel. The material covering the vamp appears to have a different pattern to that on the heel, although the colours are the same. Long and pointed, slightly upturned toe. Louis heel, 10.5 cm (H), French style. Straight sole, worn; remains of printed paper label. Rand construction, white stitching. Short peaked vamp; no quarters. Lining white pigskin (therefore foreign). White pigskin insole. Half sock of blue silk damask in self-coloured pattern. Off-white (ivory) silk binding under the silver. Top-piece repair on heel. Has been wet. One of the half socks is in poor condition and the insole on the other shoe. Tapered wooden heel wedge visible at waist (beech?).
