Social History — C. 1976
Badge, lapel badge
This badge's slogan 'Glad to be Gay' inspired Tom Robinson's song of the same name. Robinson wrote the track to be performed as a one-off for the London Gay Pride march in August 1976. The song title was a wry comment on gay people who wore badges like this one to gay pride marches once a year but were forced to remain closeted in their every day lives.
