Printed Ephemera — 1980-10-09
Gay Noise
'Gay Noise' was established in 1980 in South London as a radical gay fortnightly newspaper, but it had a short lifespan. This issue is headlined 'Insulting behaviour: they ain't seen nothing yet!'. It refers to two gay men arrested and charged with 'insulting behaviour' for kissing in the street. The men had taken part in a picket outside the London Pavilion Theatre to protest against a play entitled 'Cruising'. The play centred on murders in New York gay clubs, and was perceived as a negative portrayal of gay club culture.
