Charrington & Co employees at the Anchor Brewery, Mile End
Employees of the brewery firm Charrington & Co. work in the mash tun at the Anchor Brewery in Mile End. Inside the mash tun malt, or meal and malt, was stirred in hot water and beaten into the mash, which makes wort for brewing.
Two years after this photo was taken, Charrington & Co. merged with Bass, Mitchell & Butlers to form Bass Charrington Limited. The Anchor Brewery ceased production in January 1975.
