In this photograph by Henry Grant a woman is depicting deciding whether to purchase a puppy at the Sunday morning pet and livestock market in Club Row, Spitalfields.
On Sunday mornings Club Row in London's East End was the site of a lively market which sold pets and livestock, including dogs, birds, hens and fish. The puppy trade was extremely popular and children would flock to the many pens and cages to stroke the various breeds.
