Pool of London; two boats on the River Thames with Tower Bridge in the background
Arapoff extensively photographed the Thames and London’s canal network during the 1930s. This view is of the Upper Pool from London Bridge, looking southeast towards Tower Bridge and the bustling wharves of Southwark. In the 1930s, the Thames and its connecting waterways swarmed with activity. The pair of lighters in the foreground would have transported cargo up and down the river to the dockside warehouses and factories.
