"The Illustrious & High-borne Prince Rupert, Count Palatine of ye Rhene [i.e. Rhine] & Knight of the most noble Order of the Garter, & Generall of the Horse, to his Mai'tie King Charles, A 1643" Rupert (1619-1682) was Charles I's nephew and commander of the Royalist cavalry. One of the most charismatic of the Royalist leaders, but thwarted by jealousy and rivalry amongst King Charles' courtiers - see http://www.british-civil-wars.co.uk/biog/rupert.htm Mounted alongside 2004.158/57, which is in the same style and apparently from the same producer.
