Printed Ephemera — C.1934
Curry Recipes
This recipe booklet was issued by J. A. Sharwood & Co Limited, then based in south west London, Liverpool and Bombay. Sharwoods, founded in 1889, imported P. Vencatachellum's Madras Curry Powder which it sourced in India, claiming that: ‘The most important ingredient in a Curry IS the Curry Powder, and this must be made in India from the freshly ground spices by natives, from the secret original recipe.’ The booklet encouraged housewives to experiment with exotic food products imported from the British Empire.
