Paintings, Prints & Drawings — 1940-1944
Factory fashion notes
This poster, Factory Fashion Notes promotes safe work practices in the factory. It was issued by the Ministry of Labour and National Service and produced by the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents. The artist Grace Golden illustrated the poster with a drawing showing which clothes were unsuitable and which suitable for women working in factories.
This is one of a series of 'safety first' posters produced during the Second World War in response to the growing number of women working in factories. Their presence was seen to bring new hazards and safety issues into the previously male-dominated factory environment.
