Crucible
Small hemispherical stoneware crucible with a brown stain internally. Made by the Morgan Crucible Company, Battersea, and stamped 'BATTERSEA WORKS ENGLAND 2 1/2'. Used in assaying metals, this type of crucible was widely exported in the later 19th century for use in mints and mining areas. This example was found in Canada near Nelson, British Columbia, which had a mining boom around 1867.
