Museum of London Archaeology Service — Late Medieval; 14th - 15th century
Lead, toy, figurine
Male head from a toy figurine or puppet. The head is hollow but has been squashed flat. It has chin-length wavy hair and a square-shaped fringe in the centre of the forehead. The face has almond-shaped eyes (set so close together that they are touching) and a long straight nose. The top of the head is missing but it is possible that it originally had a hat. This head may have fitted onto a wooden stick. A similar 'puppet' head has been found at Billingsgate (no. 84.240/4), which has a pointed Jewish hat.
