The true Portaiture of the Right Honourable Isaac Pennington Lord Mayor of the City of London
Engraved portrait of Isaac Pennington, with the title and publishing information on two separate pieces of paper.
Isaac Pennington was an alderman and sheriff of London, appointed Lord Mayor by Parliament. Active in raising funds and loans for Parliament from the City, and also in enforcing the destruction of religious images in London churches. He was appointed to the High Court of Justice in 1649 but refused to sign the King's death warrant. Pennington was brought to trial at the Restoration and imprisoned in the Tower, where he died at the end of 1660. (Source: http://www.british-civil-wars.co.uk/biog/index_p.htm )
