Fashion — 2004
Outfit
This outfit by Robert Cary-Williams consists of a pale olive green, machine knitted top and a loose puffball skirt in beige lightweight silk. The top part of one pocket flap is printed with black lettering referring to University College Hospital and Islington Care Trust. The outfit includes a rosette of dark green olive twill fabric stamped with parts of the designer's name.
Born in 1966, Robert Cary-Williams studied fashion design at Saint Martins College of Art and Design before setting up his own label in 1998. In 2009 he presented his first collection (for Spring/Summer 2010) after three-year absence, caused by a period in rehab and the completion of an MA in Fine Arts.
Hoxton Boutique opened in the London area of the same name in January 2000, selling avantgarde fashion from the likes of Hussein Chalayan and their own label. It was part of a number of innovative small fashion shops, including Koh Samui in Covent Garden and the Pineal Eye off Carnaby Street.
