Bag, handbag
This handbag shows experimentation with new shapes and materials. It is made of plastic made to look like tortoiseshell and has a circular metal handle. The bag was made by Ackery, a London company founded in 1925, which found favour with Queen Elizabeth II and her sister Princess Margaret, as well as Margaret Thatcher. In the 1960s, when this bag would have been made, the company was based in Easton Street, off Rosebery Avenue.
