Packaging, tobacco label, trade card
Tobacco wrapper or trade card advertising the tobacco business of Gaitskell's located at Fountain Stairs, Rotherhithe Wall. The card is illustrated with a central image representing Captain John Smith 'the first Englishman who went ashore in Virginia' taking prisoner the Virginia Indian King of Paspanegh. Fountain stairs was a very busy landing place and Gaitskell's tobaconnists would have done good business in that location.
