Waywiser
Italians Enrico (Henry) Negretti and Joseph Zambra emigrated to London and established their business at Hatton Garden in 1850. The partners won a prize for their meteorological instruments at the 1851 Great Exhibition.
Renowned for their barometers and thermometers, the prestigious firm also manufactured optical instruments including telescopes, theodolites and gun sights. Later the company diversified into manufacturing instruments for the aircraft and other industries. This waywiser, an instrument for measuring distance, was used by the General Post Office.
