Metaphone, table metaphone
This Metaphone, an internal telephone, or early 'intercom', was marketed by the National Telephone Company. It was aimed at middle and upper class householders with servants. Using the Metaphone, they could call their servants in the kitchen from the upstairs rooms. The Metaphone could be wired directly into the house's electric bell system. On the base of the stand are terminals for the bell, line and battery wires.
