Transmitter, electrophone transmitter
The Electrophone allowed people to listen to church services and musical and theatrical performances live from their homes or at social venues. Subscribers could simply ask the operator to be connected to a theatre or church of their choice from a list of scheduled events. Some churches were unhappy about having microphones on display so this bible transmitter was produced, which could be installed discreetly near the altar. The arrival of radio signalled the end of the Electrophone in the 1920s.
