Telephone
The General Post Office introduced the 162 telephone in 1929. First produced by Siemens, this type of telephone was based on the company's 'Neophone'. The Post Office sub-contracted the manufacturing of its telephones to a range of companies.
This model 162L was manufactured by Siemens at the company's Woolwich factory. The handset was made a year earlier than the rest of the telephone. In this period telephones had to be rented from the Post Office and were not available to buy.
