Paintings, Prints & Drawings — 1691
Print, engraving
A print showing a man (associated on the back of the old mount with James II), inscribed, 'se vend a Paris chez Trouvain rue St. Jacques au grand Monarque avec privilege du Roy'.
The man is wearing an elaborately adorned coat, and ribbons on his shoulder. His breeches seem wide and might have been petticoat breeches. On his head is a periwig and he carries a sword. His walking stick is adorned with lace/fabric.
This print was published by Antoine Trouvain (c.1653 – 1708), who was a Frenchman that specialised in fashion plates and almanacs.
