Dress
Black crepe, full length evening gown with long sleeves, by Ossie Clarke. Moss crepe, a soft drped material, was a signature fabric of Clarke's. It contributed to the garments' bias cuts and elegant, figure-skimming lines. Many designs harked back to the 1930s with innovations like the central cut-out panel revealing the wearer's midriff, which made the dress fresh and contemporary.
Collarless dress with applied border around neck, this continues into a placket which runs down the CF of the dress. CF opening is fastened by satin covered buttons and satin loops. The placket divides at waist level to create a diamond shaped opening which reveals the skin of the wearer, below this opening the button and loop fastening reforms in a panel set in to the dress, continuing to hip level. Bodice of the dress is seamed either side and gathered into border at neckline, at waist level, a diagonal seam runs downward from either side of the diamond shaped opening. Skirt has a loose unstructured inverted pleat at CF. Back of bodice has large tear-drop shaped, key hole opening surrounded by an applied border. This opening runs from neck to waist. Skirt is seamed down CB and at either side. Shoulders are created from triangular inserts to which the sleeves are attached. Dress is unlined with over locked seams. Printed nylon label inside neck at LHS reads:DESIGNED BY OSSIE CLARK. A further nylon label attached to this details care instructions and the fabric of the dress-Moss Crepe. There is also a small size label which reads 3.
