Eastern and Associated Telegraph Companies' Cable System
This map shows the global telegraph network operated by the Eastern and Associated Telegraph Companies. In the 1920s radio communications technology emerged as a major rival to submarine cable telegraphy. In 1929 the Marconi Wireless Telegraph Company merged with the Eastern and Associated Telegraph Companies to form Imperial and International Communications Ltd. Based at Electra House on Moorgate, the company became Cable and Wireless in 1934.
