Printed Ephemera — 1934
Always At Your Service
This promotional poster was issued by the Telephone Development Association to promote telephone services. The Telephone Development Association was formed by British telephone manufacturers in 1922. It was a marketing body that helped make up for the General Post Office's lack of drive in promoting telephones to the public for business and home use.
Following a parliamentary review in 1932, the GPO reconsidered its image and established a public relations department headed by Stephen Tallents. The GPO began employing professional graphic designers for its publicity material. This poster was designed by the Canadian artist Austin Cooper.
