Cake mixer
Cake mixing machine used at Stanley's Bakery, 219 Eversholt Street near Euston. Stanley’s occupied a 19th century terraced house, baking bread and cakes in the basement coal-fired oven and selling from a counter on the ground floor. The large whisking machine was used to make meringues and other fluffy cake mixes. It is of German or Swiss make and retains the associated drive belt. There is a big mixing bowl, with a large balloon whisk attachment in place.
The bakery was a small family business, largely supplying its local area. It closed in 1966 when the terrace building was demolished to make way for the Ampthill development behind Euston Station. The oven capacity was 18 bread tins and a large number of bun trays. Mr Stanley's baking record was the production of 9,000 buns in one night.
