Printed Ephemera — 1887
Buffalo Bill's Wild West
Programme for Buffalo Bill's Wild West show. The colour chromolithograph cover is printed with a portrait of Buffalo Bill and scenes from show. Inside the programme gives a full description of the show together with historical information and illustrations.
This programme, published in America probably for American audiences, may have been brought to London during the first visit of William Cody's Wild West Show to the capital in 1887. This visit was organised as part of the celebrations for Queen Victoria's Golden Jubilee. When Queen Victoria attended a performance of the show in May 1887 it was her first public appearance since the death of her husband 25 years before.
