Lyons Corner Houses
Lyons Corner Houses were a well known chain of London restaurants. They were owned by the Salmon and Gluckstein families and run by Joseph Lyons, a distant relative. Salmon and Gluckstein were tobacco merchants who spotted a demand for venues selling light lunches and teatime refreshments. Joseph Lyons successfully managed catering on their behalf at the Paris Exhibition and the Crystal Palace. The first Lyons tea shop opened in Piccadilly in 1894.
