'The Coster-Girl. "Apples! An 'aypenny a lot, Apples!"'. Engraved illustration based on a photograph showing a costermonger girl selling apples. She wears a bonnet, shawl, and an apron over a plaid skirt. A large wooden tray of apples is hung from a rope around her waist. The illustration appeared in Henry Mayhew s 'London Labour and the London Poor: The condition of those that will work, cannot work, and will not work', Vol. 1., 'London Street-Folk', first published in 1861. No. 2 page 17.
