Working History — 1900-1987
Tool, throat saw
Printer's hand tool with a metal serrated blade, two small metal pieces on either side of blade bent back to approximately 450 degrees and a wooden handle. This tool was used by printworkers at The Guardian newspaper on Farringdon Road to keep the throat of their Interype machine clear of dross. The Guardian stopped printing using 'hot metal' processes in 1987. The following year the newspaper donated theirHarris Intertype Monarch typesetting machine and various hand tools to the Museum of London.
