Printed Ephemera — 1861-1864
The Street-Seller of Dogs' Collars
Engraved illustration based on a photograph showing a street seller who stitched and sold leather dog collars. He wears a stovepipe hat and overcoat, with broad, square-toed boots. Around his neck are slung an assortment of chains and interlinked collars. At his feet is a basket containing collars and other articles. The illustration was published in Henry Mayhew's 'London Labour and the London Poor: The condition of those that will work, cannot work, and will not work', Vol. 1., 'London Street-Folk', first published in 1861.
