The Shield
John Young issued this trade token, worth a half penny, for his business in New Street (now Little New Street), near Shoe Lane.
Boyne & Williamson (1889) reference London number 2066A; Obv inscription: IOHN.YOVNG.IN.NEW. STREET (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = a shield (in field); Rev inscription: NEARE.SHOOE.LANE.1669 (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = HIS / HALFE / PENNY / I.M.Y. (in four lines of Roman capitals with triad of initials at bottom, in field).
Little New Street lies in the ward of Farringdon Without in the City of London.
