Alderman Sir George Wyatt Truscott and Mrs Richard Jenkins
This is one of several oil studies made by Sir John Lavery for his group painting 'His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales receiving from the Lord Mayor Letters Patent under the Mayoralty Seal, granting Livery to the Honourable Company of Master Mariners, Mansion House, London, 2nd November 1932'. The painting, commissioned by the Lord Wakefield of Hythe, was exhibited at the 1933 Royal Academy Summer Exhibition.
This is a detailed study for the portraits of Alderman Sir George Wyatt Truscott, Lord Mayor of London between 1908 and 1909, and Mrs Richard Jenkins who are both clearly labelled. Other preliminary studies for the painting are in the Guildhall Art Gallery collection.
