Social History — 1902-1910
Bust, commemorative bust
Hollow cast lead bust of King Edward VII painted gold with a black painted plinth. The bust was purchased for one penny (1d) by Ernest King from a London street trader on 14th May 1910. This was one of several penny souvenirs sold by London street traders during May 1910 to commemorate the death of Edward VII on 6th May 1910. The bust is marked on the back with the maker's initials 'H.B'. The fact that this item appeared for sale so soon after the King's death suggests it may have been 'old stock' originally made to commemorate the Coronation of Edward VII in 1902.
