Nothing In These Stores Over 6d
Wooden and glass sign with the wording 'Nothing in these Stores over 6d F W Woolworth & Co Limited'. Such signs were displayed in all branches of Woolworth's stores in the 1920s. The slogan 'Nothing over Sixpence' was Woolworth's most effective marketing tool. It remained store policy until 1940 when inflation forced prices to rise. The first London branch of Woolworth’s opened in Brixton in 1909. Between 1912 and 1930 the American firm opened a further 60 branches in London. The store that stocked everything for the suburban home could be found in every High Street.
