Card case
Carved Indian sandalwood visiting card case with pull off top. This case, carved with references to the Hindu religion and gods would have been made in southern India, by a Hindu carver and imported into the UK. The case would have held cards printed with the name and sometimes address of the owner, usually a woman. Such cards would have been left at the home of an acquaintance or friend if the caller found the person they had come to visit was not at home or unable to receive visitors.
