Finger ring
Gold finger ring excavated from the crypt burials at Christ Church, Spitalfields in 1984-85. The ring has a raised inscription ‘JUDITH MESMAN OBIT 5TH MAY 1763. AET 29’. There are traces of a black enamel ground with maker’s mark, possibly ‘F.T.’
This type of ring commemorated the death of an individual and was worn in memory of them.
