Social History — C. 1980
Badge, lapel badge
Lapel badges like this one were commonly worn by anti-nuclear activists in the 1980s. The 'smiling sun' logo was designed by two Danish anti-nuclear campaigners, Anne Lund and Soren Lisberg, in April 1975. Badges featuring the logo and the slogan 'Nuclear Power? No thanks' first appeared at a Mayday event in the Danish city of Århus that year. The logo and slogan were subsequently adopted internationally, have appeared in many different languages around the world and are still seen today.
